Halong Bay Sea Kayaking, Haeng Toi – Dao Da Be – Mangrove Hong
“Passing down the Cua Van channel I noticed a large bay. We were in the big metal ship, but I chose the bay for anchorage on our first night in Halong Bay. Sure enough, there was a cave under the tall cliffs to the west. Silver-back Langurs populated the cliff. We anchored, then paddled through the cave into a huge lagoon. The next morning we paddled the cave again, then found another cave and Hong. On our way back, we paddled threw a large open cave and returned to the boat down a dramatic sea-filled canyon. It was May, 1992.”

Several hundred meters long and filled with varied geology, Haeng Toi is perhaps the finest remaining tidal sea cave in Halong Bay. 1 Following Lead Guide Cuong Ngugen’s tidal skills, we explored three great caves and a small hong in the back corner. The first two caves and the small, hidden hong are featured,
With lunch on board the luxurious Hoa Binh junk, we motored to Dao Da Be to explore the triple hong, hence the name “Island of Three Lakes.” Again thanks to Cuong, we got all three hongs at perfect tide while Cuong and Bing learned how to handle their new hand-me-down camera.
The show finishes three days on with top-secret Mangrove Hong, far North-East of the tourism crowds in the outer region of the Bay. The short but technical cave is fun, and the Rhizophera and Brugeria mangroves inside are still untouched.
