With Mayor Edward Hagedorn's leadership, Puerto Princessa is Philippines
"Best Municipality" for six of eight years - no logging, illegal fishing,
guns, drugs, and a clean, orderly society. We meet with municipality
officials to understand why and how, visit Princessa City walking and eating
our way through town. Paddle a river to Honda Bay and stay in on-water
bungalows before visiting Mayor Hagedorn's island in rich Ulugan Bay -
paddle mangroves and coral reefs in a proposed world heritage site. Nearby,
St. Paul's World Heritage site hosts the World's longest underground river
and indigenous Tagbanua. We camp overnight before returning to Princessa
for the Mayor's annual "Festival of Trees", an all-night mountain concert.
Cost of admission: Bring a tree to plant.
