| Location: Papalaua, Koolau Moloka'i, Hawai'i |
| Bruce and Kathy are on the brink of a cresting wave catching their kayak and dumping them on Papalaua's rocks. He’s a Hawai’i waterman, and the shot of another kayak just kissing the rocks is worth it. On days like this, Papalaua landings are good fun. On others, it's better walking the beach.
In the middle 80's a Zodiac came over from Maui in May — a month to early. They dumped on the beach, marooned over a week until Junior Dudoit finally found them, complaining of starvation. When their woeful quotes made the papers, my friends called, reminding me of their bags and shirts packed with fruit from our waterfall hikes. On the beach, the Hawaiian shellfish delicacy, opihi, carpets the remote rocks.
