| Location: Halawa Valley, Moloka'i, Hawai'i |
| East Moloka’i is about two million years old, but in that time a drainage system formed and focused into a stream we call Halawa. As the stream cut into the windward slopes, a valley formed – and continues as long as the Falls in the background continue to flow. Just downstream from the Falls, you can see the remnants of this destruction the alluvial ridge almost large enough to block the stream.
But it doesn’t. The stream continues cutting, depositing rich particulate in the valley’s lower reaches, forming green meadows blessed with rich red earth. The beach lies out of frame to the right.
