Other children's books by Ms. Urbanek:
Udoy is about two tribal boys who lived in a Palawan village in the island of Palawan. It is about a friendship, about the bond tribal people have with the earth and the wind and the skies. It is about death and about life. It is about
destruction of the forests and about floods. It is about the joy of giving back to the earth what at this time it sorely needs. Udoy is a story and a coloring book, 30 pages. It comes in two editions: English and Pilipino. Drawings are by an 8-year old child, Nabil Padilla.
Ang Palawan Ayon Kay Nanay Kuwago 30 pages, full color, in a comic format, is about the animals in the forest of Palawan talking about the environment. Nana Kuwago (Mother Owl) plays the proverbial Wise One, while the monkey plays the devil's advocate. Their discussions about the rampant forest destruction going on are almost always steamed-up with the Palawan peacock pheasant, the parrot with her three birdlings, the mouse deer, the squirrel participating in earnest. With skepticism, they talked about the plans people were making to save the environment. The Palawan peacock, Tandikan's death catalyzed a resolve among the animals in the forest to give the plan that the lowland people made a chance to succeed. Drawings are by Bernadette C. Solina.
