| Claudio rides the trades to Ha'upu as we pass Haloku, the World's tallest sea cliffs — a full kilometer straight up, so steep the winds blow a waterfall back upwards.
In this classic two-person format, we load dry bags under the stern spray skirts then a large dry bag on the top. This arrangement serves as the stern paddler's backrest. With a foot-pedal controlled rudder, Claudio needs some legroom behind the picnic cooler. That's right, we pack a 48 oz. cooler because with these following seas it doesn't matter — and with a life jacket as cushion, it makes the cooler makes a comfortable backrest for the forward paddler.
With the tradewinds and legendary Moloka'i Express at his back, all Claudio has to do is work the rudder to keep us going down wind. |
