| Location: Talin, Krabi, Thailand |
| Both the blessing and the bane of Talin is there's a great paddle just across the channel. That's usually a plus — until mainstream tourism discovers it. Now Talin is cursed with thousands of tourists led by untrained guides who cannot give a proper briefing on kayaking in pristine spots. Consequently, Talin can get noisy once the mid-morning crowds arrive, and the monkey-feeding problem is as bad as it gets. The monkeys are extremely aggressive, running through the mangroves in platoons to accost tourists from above and every angle, while the paddlers are stuck in narrow, shallow mangrove channels in open sit-on-tops with no way to escape.
Despite Talin's monkey-feeding problem, we can still give you a great paddle without fear of being intimidated or attacked by hungry macaques. We simply do not follow the crowds along the route we originally designed, but go to spots where we still must stalk macaques to see them, in their true natural state.
The best part is the "Krabi Klong", a long tidal channel that splits the island in two. |
