| Two Phuket travel reps enjoy our Sotar during a right squeeze re-entry on our Hong By Starlight trip. This is a proper caving kayak, but to get it we had to chop four feet off our open ocean sea kayaking design and give the specs to SOTAR of Grants Pass, Oregon. SOTAR owner/founder Glenn Lewman is an aerospace engineer who designs his own fabrics. Lexitron is the World’s strongest inflatable boat fabric, so I choose his heaviest weight material for our boat. When Glen told me 32 oz. was his strongest “Elite” material I asked if he could do 42 oz. Glenn replied that he could make it, but couldn’t cut it!
We settled for 32 oz. and a design based upon “Elegant Simplicity”.
Our custom-made SOTAR Elites are the only kayaks actually designed for the oyster encrusted sharp rocks lining Phang Nga’s sea caves. We figure hat when you are 100 meters inside of total darkness, you deserve a kayak that gives your true security and safety. Our SOTAR’s serve us well — we have never had a failure.
