| Commonly called Bearcats, the binturong is neither bear nor cat but closely related to the Civet family Viverridae. A Sunda Shelf species that ranges across Indonesia, Malaysia, Burma, Vietnam, Palawan (but not the rest of the Philippines) the Binturong is endangered across its range doe to loss of habitat and poaching. To bad, as is often the case, the omnivorous and nocturnal Binturong are important spreaders of seeds and eat rats. |
