| Location: Halong Highway, Hanoi, Vietnam |
| One way to Halong Bay in 1992 started at sunrise and finished at sunset, forcing an overnight stay in an old Russian hotel. The Americans were very good at bombing bridges, but just walked away from reconstruction out of spite when they lost.
The only upside was this old Russian bus, the most colorful transfer vehicle west of the Philippines. I tried to buy several as transfer vans for both Hanoi and Phuket, but the Communist government didn't understand why anybody wanted these old colorful characters, so submitting a bid was impossible. |
