Set in lush limestone mountains in hill tribe country, our Ba Be itinerary first visit a unique Hill Tribe Museum on the way to Ba Be, then gets you onto beautiful rivers, one of Vietnam's most picturesque lakes, to spectacular waterfalls, and visits authentic and real hill tribe villages only rarely visited by tourists. The weekly hill tribe market is a real treat just for its authenticity. The river cave paddle on the second day is remarkable, as is the lake paddle to an authentic village on the next day. We encourage you to take short treks around the Park Four day, three nights - Combines well with our Ha Long itineraries.

SEASON: Year round

SKILLS: Easy stream and lake paddling. Some trekking.

LODGING: National Park cottages with good beds and toilets, mosquito netting and electricity. Meal plan provided by Sea Canoe.

ACCESS: Trips depart from Hanoi by jeep, mini-van or mini-bus depending upon group size. Daily flights via Thai Airways, Vietnam Airlines and Air France. Several carriers fly direct from Hong Kong or Singapore.

Visa on arrival is available.

HOT TIP: Picturesque and magical Ba Be is under intense poaching pressure for Chinese traditional medicines - your visit helps us develop a wildlife Awareness and Rehab Program in co-operation with the National Park. The drive through Hill Tribe country is very entertaining, especially following a visit to the Hill Tribe Museum. To maintain our top standard service, we bring along our own cook and food (with a stopping stop at the local market just before the Park) A second vehicle brings the kayaking gear.

DESCRIPTION: This trip puts you right in the heart of upland Vietnam in a remote National Park that's set in limestone karst mountains. Ba Be means "Three Lakes". In fact, there is only one large lake with three different sections.

Rivers flow into the lake from all directions, and you paddle one river flowing through a large cave. Early morning hikes and paddles from Park headquarters offer rewarding wildlife sightings and sunrise vistas, and there's a traditional lakefront village so isolated the residents still speak Thai.

All the paddling is easy. This trip puts you right inside Vietnam's Thai-speaking hill tribe culture.

We provide almost everything from your hotel pick-up to your return - transfers including two snack breaks, English speak kayak guides, all Deluxe meals with brewed coffee, gourmet teas and soft drink included (lunch, dinner, breakfast, lunch), all kayaking, sleeping gear and all escort boat privileges.

You should bring the following on any SeaCanoe overnighter:

Mosquito repellant (just in case)
Sunglasses
Swimming gear
T-shirts - protection from the sun
Toiletries
Towel/Sarong
Very light long pants - protection against mosquitoes
Beachcomber's footgear (booties, Tevas, heavy-duty sandals, etc.)
Camera with lots of film
